EFE-Egypt is implementing Green Fields: Transforming Small Scale Agriculture, a project funded by the Arab Gulf Programme for Development (AGFUND) and implemented with TIS Labs to strengthen the technical, business, and market-related capacities of small-scale farmers north of Cairo in Qalyubia Governorate.

The project aims to directly reach 120 farmers aged 18–45, with an additional 250 farmers expected to benefit indirectly. Participants complete 24 hours of training over eight days, combining classroom learning with practical field training and visits.

Training covers good agricultural practices, pest and disease prevention, post-harvest handling, financial management, business planning, agricultural technology, data use, and market access. Farmers also learn about buyer requirements, collective marketing, contract farming, and opportunities to access higher-value markets.

Early results show increased knowledge of market access and agricultural value chains, rising from 59.5% to 87.2%. The project also aims to improve productivity and product quality, reduce pest-related and post-harvest losses, strengthen business management, and help farmers better adapt to climate-related risks.
