With tens of thousands injured in Gaza, EFE-Palestine launched a Rehabilitation Program in May to help meet the urgent need for physical therapy support.
The 20-hour emergency medical training covers a range of conditions, including fractures, peripheral nerve injuries, burns, strokes, and amputations.
Following the completion of their training in Gaza City, the first cohort has entered a two-month internship guided by experienced practitioners. Trainees will gain the skills needed to assist individuals facing serious physical trauma and long-term recovery.
To support student wellbeing, all youth in the program will also receive 10 hours of psychosocial training, along with kits containing stationery and essential tools.
This program isn't just timely; it's a necessity. Last year, an average of 15 children a day in Gaza suffered potentially lifelong disabilities (Save the Children, 2025). With so many children and adults now in dire need of sustained rehabilitation to heal and rebuild, this new program offers a vital path forward, enabling local caregivers to meet this overwhelming need.
As the crisis continues, so does our work. EFE-Palestine's team on the ground continues to train youth in Emergency First Aid, Emergency Midwifery, and Psychosocial First Aid to support displaced people in need of urgent care. As of today, our 631 program trainees have graduated from our programs.
